(Tim's
note: Bill has been a friend for many
years and only recently was bitten by the
"home theater bug". He is
an inveterate do-it-yourselfer and has a background
in woodworking. This is the story of
his do-it-yourself theater project, in his
own words. I will add my own comments where
appropriate. A-V Services provided the gear
and handled the installation, setup, and calibration
of the system. Everything else was done
by Bill, with assistance from several friends
and close relatives. As you can see
from the photos, he did a great job within
the constraints of his budget and the wishes
of the rest of his family!)

My
Home Theatre Project

My
home theatre project seemed to blossom (or explode)
from an initial idea to improve the surround sound
in my room from its original $300 Magnavox Pro-Logic
Home Theater in a Box.
Every
step of the way was painstakingly planned
to give me the best sound and look that I
could afford, while maintaining and nourishing
a high WAF (Wife Approval Factor). As many
may know, this balancing act can rival those
guys on the Ed Sullivan Show with the spinning
plates! My wife had many “constructive” inputs
to the room.
For example, she
told me early on, "Don’t you cover
up my wood panel walls with one of those huge
TV’s! AND, we need more light down here…you
better be doing something about that too".

The
project covered 6 major areas:

Actually,
a lot of the things she wanted for the
room did make sense and ended up as
the very things that helped me to create
a warm, comfortable room where people
love to come and enjoy the home theatre
or socialize with music or video in
the background.
So,
with MY needs and my wife’s needs in
mind, and the help of Tim Campbell and
his company, A-V Services, we were able
to create the Home Theatre you see here
and on the following pages..
